Happy Labor Day! At Dream Maker, we’re big fans of living the simple life, so here are our recommendations for 5 ways to simplify your Labor Day Weekend.

  1. Enjoy the Staycation
Labor Day is one of the 10 worst travel days. The day marks the end of the summer travel season and for many is the last chance for a three-day weekend getaways. Roads and airports see a significant bump in traffic this weekend. With more people travelling, there’s even more reason for you to enjoy a “staycation” at home. Saving gas and avoiding the stress of crowds and bumper-to-bumper traffic? We’re big fans of that!
  2. Take advantage of weekend sales
Holiday weekends are a great opportunity to find sales on everything you need for your next big project. Home and hardware stores usually have sales promotions around the Labor Day weekend, so if you’re planning a fall project now may be the time to stock up on materials. Even if you’re not in the mood to head out to the stores, you can still find many of these great deals online, so you can sit back with a coffee and your laptop and enjoy the savings from home.
  3. Ask for help
Sometimes we stack a lot on our plates without stepping back to ask for help. Use today as an excuse to ask for a hand with the chores that you dread doing alone. Know you need to paint the garage? It’s a job that will be much quicker (and more fun) with a few friends helping. M. Nora Klaver, author of Mayday! Asking for Help in Times of Need, said “People often believe they don’t have trouble asking for help, when they do. Sometimes they sit on projects for weeks because they didn’t want to ask for help.” She offers tips on asking for help in this NY Times article.
  4. Not in a cooking mood? Call delivery
As much as we love grilling out on the patio, some days the prep time and clean up just aren’t worth it! Ditch the burgers and ‘dogs Labor Day cookout routine for a much more relaxing option … delivery. This one’s a no-brainer for a simple way to keep your tummy happy. Plus if you’ve had friends over to help with a project, food is a quick (and always welcome) way to repay.
  5. Get outdoors
There are a few weeks left to enjoy summer, and fortunately for almost all regions of the US, the summer heat peak has already passed. That means we can finally get back outside and leave August’s sweltering heat in our past. Depending on how you like to enjoy the outdoors, this day off is the perfect opportunity to get moving on a hiking trail or relax outside in your backyard. As the sun sets, enjoy the late summer evening illuminated by the glow of your hot tub.
