Keeping your water free of debris and residue is the simplest way shorten your routine hot tub cleanings. Your hot tub cover does an excellent job of keeping debris and leaves out of your hot tub while it is not in use. When you remove the cover, there are plenty of easy ways to keep your spa’s water clean.

Place Your Spa in an Open Area

Tree coverage may look nice, but come autumn you may find you’re spending more time fishing leaves out of the water than enjoying your hot tub massage. When planning where to place your spa, we recommend an open area not under tree branches. You’ll worry less about leaves falling into your spa water, and there’s less risk of a branch falling and damaging your spa (or hurting someone using it).

Take Cover

Shelters like gazebos and canopies can help keep leaves and pollen out of your spa when the cover is off. There are permanent solutions that you or a carpenter can build, or there are simple collapsible tent options. Beyond keeping debris out of your open spa, they also offer the added benefit of shade and protecting your skin from the sun’s rays.

Rinse off

An outdoor shower near your spa makes it easy for you and your guests to rinse off before a soak. Beyond removing dirt from feet, you’ll also be able to rinse off any moisturizer, beauty products, or lingering detergent on your swimsuit that could clog your spa’s filter.

Building an outdoor shower can be a fun summer project for your family. A great solution in the meantime is simply using a garden hose near your spa to rinse sand, dirt, and debris from your feet before entering the spa.
