So, you are trying to decide where to place your spa? You may ask, what is the ideal location to catch some sunshine while enjoying your soak? Or you may be a night owl and prefer to look at the moon and stars while winding down in your hot tub after a night on the town. Or then again, you may be more concerned about the shade or privacy you will receive from trees, hedges or pool house.

These are fun but important considerations to keep in mind when planning an outdoor spa location (or relocation) to get the most enjoyment out of your spa year-round.

Start by assessing your daily schedule and identifying the times of the day that you are most likely to enjoy your spa. Stand in the spot you’re planning to place your spa to get a feel of the lighting and warmth in that spot. Consider the angle of the sun or moon and the time of day along it’s path from the east to the west.

Also consider the time of year. If you are planning your hot tub location during the winter, keep in mind that daylight hours are shorter during this time of year (December 21st is the shortest day of the year) and during the summer the days are longer (The longest day varies between June 20 and June 22).

In the northern hemisphere the sun and moon is always to our south, yet the angle will change throughout the year. If you have lived for a number of years on the property where you plan to place your spa then you are likely to be familiar with the direction of the sun and moon and how their position paints light or provides views around your house.

New property owners may want to take a little more time observing where they can enjoy the streaming sun, or find shelter in the shade.

A couple fun online sources for planning for the angles and amount of daylight through out the year are www.suncalc.net and http://www.mooncalc.org

If you plan to build a pergola over your spa for partial shade you may consider the the placement of the beams and slats to take advantage of shadows and light.

Even if you plan to place your spa on a covered porch or in a sunroom, the sun direction may still play a part in your decision.

Regardless of the amount of planning you do for the original placement of your Spa, you can take comfort in knowing that Dream Maker Spas are among the lightest solid body spas on the market and can be more easily moved or relocated than heavier acrylic spas.
