Face it, the world we live in is obsessed with smartphones and technology. It seems like every day the news is featuring a different story about the latest viral trend, a new study about children using tablets, or the negative effects of social media. Whether you’re a young teen or an entrepreneur, chances are you’re spending 42% of your day looking at a screen.

While going “off the grid” and totally deleting your social media pages and tossing your technology may not be a viable option, there are other simple ways to unplug from the world – even just briefly.

The first step in helping cut back on screen time is to deem your DreamMaker Spa digital-free. This means banning all use of phones and tablets in or around your spa, no excuses! Your spa is supposed to be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience; scrolling on your newsfeed or taking an after-hours work call is counterproductive. To get the most out of your soak, take those 20 minutes to fully detach from the tech-world.

Another simple step in limiting screen time is to turn off your notifications. Notifications such as calls and text messages are okay, but do you really need to be notified every time you receive a “like”? Removing notifications from social platforms will help keep you from spending extra time on your phone.

If all else fails and you’re truly struggling with cutting back on your screen time, another easy fix is to set limits. Easily accessed in the “Settings” of your phone, you can view your average screen time per application as well as set a limit that will automatically disable you from going over a designated amount of time. Also, check your App Store for other helpful timers and monitors.

During this digital detox it is important to remember that you don’t need to know everything the moment it happens, allow yourself to focus on the present. These small steps can only lead to more personal time as well as better relationships with others – in real life.

You owe it to yourself to unplug from the world and unwind in your DreamMaker Spa.
