Don’t let a pesky mosquito drive you out of our hot tub. Check out some of these ideas for how you can naturally ward annoying bugs so that you never have to miss one second of relaxation time in your hot tub from Dream Maker Spas.

1) Citronella

Citronella is one of the most common ingredients found in brand name mosquito repellents. If you head over to your local garden center, you should be able to find some citronella candles that you can light up around your spa. Another option is to simply plant citronella bushes in the garden around your spa. Citronella plants are generally considered low-maintenance plants that like warmer weather climates.

2) Lavender

Lavender provides a great smell for us that’s not so great to insects. This plant releases natural essential oils found in its leaves that helps ward away mosquitoes. Compared to citronella plants, many find lavender plants more appealing, so a great option if you’re looking to spruce up your backyard! This plant is extremely hardy and drought-resistant, making it a good contender for the summertime heat.

3) Make your own bug spray

Mix up a natural mosquito repellent. Simply mix ½ cup of distilled water, ½ cup of apple cider vinegar, and 40 drops of lemongrass essential oil. Mix this in a spray bottle from your local dollar store, and you have yourself a homemade, natural mosquito repellent! This repellant is best when you’re enjoying the patio, but before getting in the hot tub rinse off any that may come in contact with the water to help keep your spa’s water clean.
