One of our favorite holidays doesn’t involve cards or gifts, special decorations or songs. We’re talking about National Spouses Day, a simple day to show your spouse appreciation for all they do.

Those who observe National Spouses day call it a warm up for Valentine’s Day. This low-pressure holiday focuses more on acts of gratitude instead of gift giving. It’s a time to show your spouse you care. This National Spouses Day, why not plan a hot tub date for your partner?

Prepare a light, tasty dinner

Yes your meal can affect your mood! During the winter, it’s tempting to fill up on hearty rich foods. Try a lighter recipe to help you feel refreshed after eating. A home cooked meal creates an opportunity for quality time together, and a healthy plate high in protein and fiber and low in carbs and fat can help give you energy instead of making you groggy and sleepy.

Warm Towels, Warm Heart

There’s nothing like soaking in your spa on a cold winter night. The contrast between the hot water and chilly air is invigorating. To keep your honey from turning into a popsicle when they step out of the spa warm up towels in the dryer before heading out for a soak. You can toss the towels in to let them warm up while you’re eating dinner. When you take them out of the dryer put them in a large dry cooler to trap in the heat. Just like your spa’s insulation keeps the water warm, your cooler will be keeping the towels heated beside the spa for when you step out.

Can music say thank you?

We say it can! In fact, there are plenty of playlists online that were made just to say “Thank you.” Bring your portable speakers outside — or even better, connect to your spa’s built in Bluetooth audio system. Sometimes music can give us the words we’ve been trying to say, and songs that say thank you are perfect for a Spouses Day soak.

For National Spouses Day, forego the gifts for actions showing gratitude instead. It’s a great opportunity to slow down, push aside other chores, responsibilities, and worries, and simply take the time to remind your partner how much you care. Happy Spouses Day!
